Hello Members and Friends
I am sitting here just thinking about the first few months of 2010, the scenic views on the Island have been absolutely stunning all covered in snow. The amount of snowfall on the Isle of Man the likes of which have not been seen for about 25 years so they say. Wherever you live I hope that you have an impressive view that will stay with you in your memory. This was far away thoughts from the sounds and sights of the TT Races which we all set our paces to.
ANNUAL LUNCHEON
Again we had a very successful day with a large turn out, the applications were a little slow because of the postal strike which started in the middle of ticket applications but after a few telephone calls to say that the date for applications had been extended we managed to get the numbers near enough to the previous year. The date for the next Luncheon is WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 24TH 2010. MARK IT IN YOUR DIARY (Ticket application will be with your September bulletin.)
TTRA PRESIDENT 2009-2010
Your New President Phillip McCallen 11 times TT winner was installed into Office at the Luncheon and his speech was well presented and humourous. He entered in the traditional way by riding in on a Replica Yamaha RD56 bike courtesy of Phil Morris.
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH ON BEHALF OF THE ASSOCIATION
Dick and Sue Kingston for the printing and supplying of the Luncheon Tickets. Bob Milliken for all his work producing the Lapel Badges for the Luncheon which is very much appreciated and also to one of our Patrons Mr Kel Prince for being so generous to support the cost of the production.
Morton Media for their continued support for arranging to print the Table Plans and delivering on the morning of the event. In particular to Lynn for all her tolerance with Frances having to change names and tables at short notice. We are also very grateful for the continued sponsorship of the TTRA logo on the front cover of the Classic Racer Magazine and editorial about the Association courtesy of Malcolm Wheeler. Also Julie and Malcolm donated a Helmet with very exciting signatures on it for our Auction, this just fell short of the reserve price and it was agreed to forward to Bonhams for the next Stafford Show with all the proceeds to the TTRA.
These auction items at the Luncheon are usually one offs. 2 Mike Trimby is always generous with the arranging of 2 tickets for the World Moto GP Races and Neil Tuxworth Past President for organising tickets for the British Superbike Championship meeting. Patron Earl of March – Goodwood, kindly donated tickets for the Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival meeting. A great Suzuki Scooter from Ken Blacklock was received and sold for a substantial amount and also a Lifan Paddock Trail bike was donated by John Rudge. Wonderfully generous.
2 Honda Team pictures by Past President Neil Tuxworth. I hope I have not forgotten anyone, but thank you all so much and of course to the bidders especially those who were lucky enough to get the Auction items.
DONATIONS
A special thank you for all the donations that have been received from many very kind families and friends, Clubs and also TTRA members. Letters of thanks are always sent at the time of acceptance, again thank you all for thinking of the TTRA. Paul Bradford thank you too for your generous second cheque from the sales of your books on the Island.
Finally to our Patron Mr Michael Sutton who has so generously continued to support our 2 editions per year of the Bulletin postage costs. I would personally like to say thank you so much Mr Sutton and also from the Committee and members of the TTRA, we are very grateful.

WYN AND ALLAN ROBINSON MEMORIAL TROPHY
It was a strange time for me on this subject. I had been approached regarding the recipient of this Trophy , but not involved in any part of it. I removed myself from the Committee meeting when this subject was going to be discussed. Yes,you are right it was my dear husband Tom.
His dedication and support to the continued upkeep and appearance of the 38th Milestone throughout the year, it was felt appropriate by the Committee to award this very special Trophy to him. No one was more shocked than Tom when his name was announced to go to receive the lovely silver rosebowl and very surprised that I had never said anything.
THE TREASURERS COMMENTS
In the September ’09 Bulletin I asked for someone to step forward and take over the Treasurer’s post, and I am glad to say a couple of very suitable candidates offered their services. They were interviewed in February and Mrs Judith Alcock was offered the post and accepted it. I thank both the excellent candidates for coming forward and the final selection was difficult.
Judith has competed in the sport as a sidecar passenger on short circuits and tells me she regrets never having a ride in the TT. She has been involved within the VMCC and still helps out at their race meetings. Graham, her husband, is a long standing member of the Association, so they are both fully involved with us. I will be presenting my last set of accounts at the AGM on June 8th 2010 and will then step down so that Judith can be formally elected at the meeting and take over the job. I have offered to help where necessary while the new Treasurer gets accustomed to the work.
You will remember our Accounting year has been changed to end on 31st January instead of 31st March, merely to give more time to get the accounts prepared and audited ready for the AGM, so my final accounts will be for the nine months period from 1.4.09 to 31.1.10. Briefly, we had another successful year and made grants totalling nearly £18,000 (nine month period) these were to TTRA members who are currently experiencing difficult times caused by injuries. Other expenditure was broadly in line with the previous year.
The Annual Lunch turned in a profit of £9364 which included a very good result on the Auction which was conducted very professionally by Bonhams this time our thanks to them. The result is another record, in spite of the numbers attending being down from last year’s lunch. Please make every effort to support your Association’s Lunch as it remains a major fundraiser for us.
Our donations were a lot lower this year but still totalled £13,484 which included a donation from the Friends of the TTRA of £5000, and another substantial donation from one of our Patrons, Mr Michael Sutton, to assist with our postage costs, which are ever increasing, so I will make my final plea to you to accept delivery of our Bulletins by email. PLEASE ARRANGE THIS WITH FRANCES IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
A copy of our Accounts can be provided on request to any member after they have been audited and approved at the AGM Finally, I need to thank all the people and organisations who have helped me and the TTRA particularly in financial terms during my tenure. It has been a privilege and a pleasure for me, albeit sometimes more difficult than riding the TT, to have worked with all the members and people involved, and I am happy to retire knowing that the Association is currently in its strongest ever financial position.
Please give all the support and consideration you can to Frances and Judith in their future efforts for the Association. I am looking forward, after 30 years, to really being able to enjoy my lunch ! Regards John

Direct debits/standing orders
We have been asked by many members if this is a possible way of making donations to the TTRA and we are very happy to accept this idea. Please contact the Treasurer or myself for details. I have been asked by certain members to make you all aware that most of the Associations members when they joined back in the years gone by would have paid a very small joining fee.
Considering that there is not an annual subscription to pay, it would be nice to occasionally support the TTRA with a donation to go towards the cost of the Newsletter which is sent out twice a year. It is not only the postage but cost of paper, envelopes, printing etc., which have all increased dramatically as I am sure you are all aware of. I come to the request for your email address if you have one.
SPORT IN SCIENCE
Science in Sport We are again donating the Energy drinks free to all TT Competitors for 2010. This is now the 5th year that we have been involved with this product.
From the feed back It would appear to be an advantage to the riders who speak very highly of it and are very appreciative for the generosity from all concerned. Our thanks go to Dr David Stevens MBE, Rob Vine Trust and Roy Hanks TT Supporters Club for their generous donations towards assistance with the cost of this product.
Birthday Boy – Jack McCredie had his 102nd birthday last month – fantastic. A card was sent to him from the TTRA and all its members.
BEST WISHES
Before I come to my close for those of you who are unwell, you are all in our thoughts. I hope you have enjoyed the Newsletter and if you have any news items for the next Bulletin please don’t hesitate to forward it on to me. Incidentally, the TT Riders Association will be celebrating 60 years next year 2011.
Cheerio
Frances
